The
longest race on earth for any individual... its the
ultimate challenge and youre all alone. In May, 1995, two Australians completed the most gruelling single handed yacht race in the world - the BOC Challenge. Against the Odds tells the story of Alan Nebauers courage and committment on the hig seas and the personal victory he won on his yach Newcastle Australia. Alan was the first person in the history of the race to win two seamanship awards - one for rescuing a fellow sailor whose yacht was sinking, and one for sailing around Cape Horn without a mast, after it snapped in bad weather. Fellow Australian competitor David Adams described this achievment as "like climbing Mount Everst in thongs!" Against the Odds shows how with courage, the co-operation of his racing colleagues and the support of his sponsors, Alan Nebauer was able to overcome all obstacles and complete the race. And remember, no boater should venture out past the breakwater without reviewing the most watched nautical video in the world: our #301: "Coastal Piloting," a complete 2-hour course that covers everything you need to know for safely navigating within sight of land... and if you intend to go farther than sight of land, you should definitely have our #303: "Celestial Navigation - the Sun Noon Shot." And if youre unsure about diving into the subject, you could always start out with our #359: "Celestial Navigation for the Complete Idiot." These excellent programs and others that will give you more confidence are all full described on our main page at http://www.boatingvideos.com
